Instrument Override
From the chart, orders go only to the contract set in the Instrument Override. The override is required: without an active override you cannot send orders.
The override contract can be the same as the chart's or a different one. For example, on an ES chart you can trade:
- the ESZ6 contract on CME, the same instrument as the chart;
- the MESZ6 micro on CME, while watching the E-mini chart.
Activate the override
- In the CHART TRADING panel, under Instrument Override, type the full contract with its expiry in the first field, for example ESZ6 or MESZ6.
- In the second field, type the exchange it trades on, for example CME.
- Click ACTIVATE OVERRIDE.
When the override is active:
- the button turns orange and shows ✔ OVERRIDE ACTIVE: followed by the contract;
- the two fields are locked;
- at the top right of the chart the orange → badge appears with contract and exchange, for example → MESZ6 (CME);
- the crosshair calculates the CUR / NOW / CLS values with the tick and tick value of the override contract: you see the risk of the instrument you are actually trading.
:::warning Type the exact contract Always enter the contract with its expiry, for example ESZ6, not just the root ES. Orders are sent exactly to the contract you type. :::
If you leave the exchange empty, TickerExplorer uses the chart's exchange.
Turn off or change the override
- Click ✔ OVERRIDE ACTIVE. The override turns off and the button goes back to ACTIVATE OVERRIDE.
- To change the contract, edit the fields and activate the override again.
Without override
If you try to send an order without an active override, TickerExplorer shows the Override Required message: "Instrument override is not armed. Enter the override symbol and press ACTIVATE OVERRIDE before sending orders."
After the rollover
When you change contract with the rollover, also update the override with the new contract. See Instruments and contract rollover.
