DOM

The DOM shows the instrument's book, price by price. From here you can place and cancel Limit orders with a single click.

Open the DOM

There are two ways:

  • from the chart's DOM menu: the DOM of the chart's instrument opens. If it is already open, it comes to the front;
  • from the DOM button in the TRADING TOOLS panel: a new, empty DOM opens.

The window title shows the instrument, for example DOM ES. With the override on, it also shows the contract of the orders, for example DOM NQ→MNQM6.

The DOM is not saved in the workspace.

The columns

ColumnContent
P&LWith an open position, the profit or loss you would have if the price reached that level
RMKKey levels: HOD and LOD (today's high and low), YH, YL and YC (high, low and close of the previous session)
PRICEThe price
SIZEThe lots on the bid or ask at that price
PDNThe number of distinct orders that make up the lots at that price
POSYour working orders, with the quantity: cyan for Buy, orange for Sell, ◆ for UFO orders. On the average price row, the position: +1 long, -1 short
The DOM on ES with orders on MESZ6: short position of 1 (amber row), a UFO Sell and Buy in POS, HOD in RMK.

For example, 100 lots in SIZE with 3 in PDN are three orders: one of 50, one of 40 and one of 10.

Row colors:

  • best bid: teal;
  • best ask: red;
  • average price of your position: amber;
  • spread: dark yellow;
  • ask levels: dark red;
  • bid levels: dark green.

Set up the DOM

  1. In Account, choose the account or routing group.
  2. In Symbol, choose the instrument, for example ES.
  3. In Exchange, check the exchange, for example CME.
  4. Click Go. The DOM fills up.
  5. In the field next to Override, type the exact contract, without the exchange, for example ESZ6. You can also send orders on a contract other than the data one, for example read ES and trade MESZ6.
  6. Click Override. The button lights up and the title shows the contract.
  7. In Qty, type the contracts to send with each click.
The DOM controls: ES data, orders on MESZ6, Qty at 1.

If the DOM is still empty, you can skip step 4: one click on Override loads the instrument and turns on the override together.

Without the override on, the DOM does not send orders. At the bottom you see ⚠ Override not armed — set symbol and press OVERRIDE to enable trading.

The ⚙ next to Account opens the routing groups window. See Routing groups and Account Monitor.

The DOM account is independent of the chart account.

Place and cancel orders

warning

A click on the DOM immediately sends a real order, without confirmation. Check account, contract and Qty before clicking.

Where to click

OrderWhere you left-click
Buy LimitIn the PRICE column, on a price below the best
Sell LimitIn the SIZE column, on a price above the best

The order is a Limit of Qty contracts at the clicked price.

warning

The column sets the side, not the price: PRICE always sends a Buy, SIZE always a Sell. A Buy clicked above the best, or a Sell below the best, is filled immediately.

To cancel an order, right-click its price.

You cannot send brackets from the DOM, and there is no simulation (SIM).

UFO

With UFO on, the DOM keeps a single Buy order and a single Sell order:

  1. The first left-click in the PRICE column places the Buy. The first click in the SIZE column places the Sell.
  2. Each following click in the same column modifies the order already placed and moves it to the new price, instead of sending another one.
  3. Right-click cancels the order. If there is no order at the clicked price, it cancels the UFO order of that side: Buy in the PRICE column, Sell in the SIZE column.

UFO orders are marked with ◆ in the POS column.

With UFO off, each left-click sends a new order.

Display modes

The Std button switches between standard mode and Enh mode:

  • Std: standard mode;
  • Enh: the price scale stays still and you move it with the mouse wheel.

In Enh mode, AS turns on automatic scrolling of the scale.

Messages and blocks

The DOM applies the same checks as the chart. If the order cannot be sent, Entry blocked appears with the reason, for example no account selected, connection lost or a license that does not allow new orders.

The bottom line shows the outcome of orders:

  • ⚠ Order outcome UNKNOWN — check R | Trader Pro: no answer arrived in time. The order may be live. Do not send it again: the DOM reloads orders and position by itself after a few seconds;
  • DOM order failed: the order was rejected, with the reason;
  • DOM cancel failed: the cancellation did not succeed. The order may still be live: check it at your broker.
